Cliff Josephs, the director of Chanel Publishers Ltd, has been active in lifestyle book publishing since 1989, when he started CJ Publishing.

He subsequently sold that company and in 1999 launched Chanel Publishers Ltd. Chanel received the Booksellers' Award for the top-selling New Zealand book in 2000, for New Zealand Food Wine & Art.

The company is known for its entrepreneurial approach to lifestyle publishing and has published more than 30 cookbooks and books about New Zealand.

Cliff Josephs of Chanel Publishers and Barbara Nielsen of Stylus Publishing have combined forces to produce Chanel & Stylus titles, latterly with best-selling author Robyn Martin. Cliff's longest running title is the New Zealand Home Diary, first published in 1989.
